The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has officially released its holiday schedule for the remainder of the calendar year, outlining dates when the bourse will remain closed for trading activities. The announcement is of critical importance to investors, brokers, and market stakeholders who rely on the timing and operation of financial markets for strategic decision-making.
According to the notification issued by PSX management, the exchange will remain closed on the following national and religious holidays:
- Labour Day – May 1
- Eid-ul-Adha – As per Islamic calendar
- Ashura (9th and 10th Muharram) – Subject to moon sighting
- Independence Day – August 14
- Eid Milad-un-Nabi – Date based on lunar calendar
- Quaid-e-Azam Day – December 25
In addition to these special holidays, the PSX also observes routine weekly holidays on Saturdays and Sundays, during which all trading and settlement activities are suspended. These weekend closures are standard practice in line with international stock exchanges and allow time for maintenance, regulatory checks, and rest periods for financial professionals.
The PSX has reiterated its commitment to aligning with the State Bank of Pakistan and federal government directives for holiday observance. Any changes to the declared dates due to moon sightings or unforeseen national circumstances will be communicated promptly through official channels.
Market analysts advise investors to plan their portfolios with these holidays in mind, particularly around religious festivals when liquidity may be lower. “Knowing the trading holidays ahead of time allows for better risk management and more effective investment planning,” said Ayesha Khan, a senior market strategist.
Additionally, the PSX will continue to operate on its regular schedule — Monday to Friday, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM — excluding these official non-working days.
The full holiday list is available on the official PSX website and has been shared with all member brokerage houses.
